We introduce here animal portraitist Heinrich von Zügel (1850 - 1941), a professor at Munich’s Academy of Fine Arts, who was Bruno Beran’s teacher. His portrayal of farm animals and especially their relationship to the men who cared for them raised what might be considered a mere genre form to a higher level. Learn here more of Bruno’s response to his teacher, how it differed from that of Blaue Reiter artist, Franz Marc, and about Zügel himself.
